Football Alberta Anti-Harassment and/or Maltreatment Complaint Link

Football Alberta is committed to the safety and well-being of all members in our association.  If you are a member and/or parent/guardian of a member and have exhausted all avenues from within your club/team or league and would like to register a complaint about any type of harassment or maltreatment existing on one of our members clubs/teams/associations, please read below.  Please note that all complaints regarding issues arising on high school football teams should not be sent to Football Alberta.  Instead, they would need to go to the school, school board, superintendent and possibly the Alberta Schools' Athletic Association as that is where the governance for that level of play lies.

Although we take all concerns seriously, the focus at the provincial level will be on resolving issues of alleged harassment or maltreatment of the players/coaches/staff and get it to professional attention.  Football Alberta is not an official investigative body, nor certified to determine what is and is not a crime or human rights abuse.  We have signed on with the Alberta Sport Leadership Association to provide our members access to an independent third party service called ALIAS which will be described below.  Before proceeding please read the following:

A)  Football Alberta and the ITPS will not take complaints about the following issues:

  • Internal disagreements within a club/league regarding policies and procedures.
  • One off confrontations between coach/administration and player/parent plus any continuation of dispute over that incident (unless it rises to physical assault)
  • People generally not getting along.
  • Player Selection process for any team
  • Position assignment for any player
  • Playing Time Issues
  • Strategy Disagreements or coaching/staffing assignments
  • Executive Selection process and activity
  • Game Scheduling (unless it directly violates LTAD principles)
  • Game Outcomes and/or Officiating Concerns
  • Any complaint about language used in practice or games unless it can be directly attributable to a specific individual, deemed chronic and rises to human rights abuse (i.e. racial, gender based or other discriminatory language)
  • Any issues the Complaint Committee deems should remain local

B)  Independent Third Party Service

For complaints regarding abuse and harassment we have provided the button below.  You will be linked immediately to an independent third-party service, called ALIAS where you will fill out the online complaint form. ALIAS will contact the complainant within 48 working hours; receivability conclusion target ˜ 10 business days (may flex based on party availability).  The staff of ALIAS are: Experienced in helping victims of maltreatment, professionally and
personally independent of Football Alberta. ·They know and understand Football Alberta's Safe Sport policies. They are qualified and experienced in navigating complaints of MALTREATMENT.

ALIAS does not handle association/club level complaints or concerns involving procedure, team selection, suspensions, match or misconduct reports, playing time, or other complaint/concerns of this nature (see above). These complaints should be sent to your local association/club according to their policies.

If you are unsure if your complaint constitutes MALTREATMENT, please review the Alberta Universal Code of Conduct (AB UCC) before proceeding.

Football Alberta abides by the Alberta Universal Code of Conduct (AB UCC) to guide the organization, our members, and our organizational participants in ensuring the safety and well-being of those associated with the sport of football.

Each person has a responsibility to help keep the sport safe. Reports of MALTREATMENT that come to the attention of any Football Alberta Staff will be directed to contact ALIAS using the "Report a Complaint" button. By providing you with this service, Football Alberta is reaffirming its commitment to protect its members by providing a safe and positive environment within the programs, business, activities and events of the Organization.
