Team Alberta FAQ's

  1.  How do I register?
  • You must have a Nomination Letter to register.
    • All players who registered in 2023 Programs will receive a Nomination Letter from the Football Alberta Office.
    • You receive a Nomination Letter from your High School or Bantam Head Coaches. If your Coach does not have a Nomination Letter, please have them reach out to techdirector@footballalberta.ab.ca to get a copy.
  • Once you receive the Nomination Letter you will be directed to the Football Alberta RAMP registration website.
  • You will have to login with a previous account or create a new account.
  • Double Check you are registering for the correct age division, you will only be able to register for the age division that matches the player’s Birth Year.
  • Complete all required fields and enter the correct position your player wants to tryout for. We are aware many players play multiple positions but for Team Alberta tryout you are required to select one and if needed the Coaches will move players around.
  • Ensure all Medical Information is completed correctly in the Questions section of the registration.
  • Double Check you are selecting the correct North or South Selection Camp.

  1. What age group do I register for?
  • All Football Canada events are based strictly on Birth Year of the player and no exceptions are allowed. It does not matter if the players played Bantam or High School or what grade in school.  It does not matter if you are born December 31st or January 1st, it is strictly birth year.
  • The birth year for the 2024 events are:
    • U16 - Players must be born in 2009 or 2010.
    • U18 - Players must be born in 2007 or 2008.
    • U17 - Players must be born in 2008.
    • U18 Girls - Players must be born in 2007, 2008 or 2009.

  1. What Selection Camp do I attend?
  • For U16 & U18 players will attend the Selection Camps based on the team they played for during the 2023 season.
    • North: Players from teams in Lacombe and Stettler and further North.
    • South: Players from teams in Red Deer, Sylvan Lake, Rocky Mountain House and further South.
  • The U18 Girls will attend one Selection Camp in Red Deer on May 10-12. There is no North or South Camp this year.

  1. What do the Selection Camps include?
  • Each Selection Camp will include 4 or 5 practices and typically ends in a scrimmage.
  • The Selection Camp will be a combination of individual skill evaluations, 1 vs. 1’s, inside run, skelly and full 12 vs. 12.
  • Players will be expected to learn a basic offensive and defensive scheme for each camp to allow for proper evaluation on both sides of the ball.
  • Each Selection Camp will also include a Special Teams Evaluation with long snapping, punting, and kicking.
  • In most cases the players will keep their Football Alberta jersey.
  • The player registration fee covers the cost of the indoor field costs, coaches travel and food costs.

  1. What do players need to bring to the Selection Camp?
  • All players need their own full football equipment.
    • Including proper practice pants and approved knee pads.
    • Approved and inspected helmet from your team.
    • Players will not be allowed to scrimmage unless they have all the required equipment.
  • Your own water bottle.

  1. Why am I not allowed to watch the indoor Selection Camp?
  • The fire capacity is 300 people inside the seasonal dome at the U of A Foote Field in Edmonton and the Encana Field in Shouldice Athletic Park in Calgary.
  • Each Selection Camp will have 200+ players plus the coaches and support staff and we will not have room for spectators.
  • This is not our ideal situation as we would prefer our parents being able to watch however the domes do allow us to host the Selection Camps regardless of the environmental challenges.
  • Spectators are welcome to watch any outdoor Selection Camps.

  1. How does the U17 Team Alberta program work?
  • All 2007 & 2008 players will attend the U18/U17 Selection Camp together.
  • The U18 team will be the first priority for the 2008 players.
  • Following the Selection Camps certain 2008 players will be invited to attend the U18 Final Selection Camp and other top 2008 players will be invited to U17 Final Selection Camp.
  • The top 2008 will be selected to the U18 Team. The next top 40 2008’s will play for the U17 Team Alberta.

  1. What does the Team Alberta player fees cover?
  • All Football Canada events are cost sharing with all other teams and provinces competing in the tournaments. This means regardless of where the event is, all teams equally share the cost of flights, accommodations, and food.  Even if the event is in Alberta or Saskatchewan we still cover our share of the cost of flights for all teams to attend.
  • The player fee covers the cost of any transportation outside of the province, accommodations and food during the event and any event related costs.
  • The player fee also covers the cost of jerseys, pants, socks and any other equipment if required.
  • The player fee helps cover the cost of all Coach expenses, a full-time team Athletic Therapist and Equipment Manager.
  • Depending on the event the team will have 7-10 practices, 2 or 3 games, many team instructional meetings and team building events.
  • Football Alberta annually subsidies Team Alberta program costs 10-25%.
